Apple has released visionOS 1.1, an update to the operating system powering its new Vision Pro mixed reality headset. While not a major overhaul, the update packs several notable enhancements and improvements across various areas of the visionOS experience.
Persona Enhancements:
One of the key focuses is upgrades to Personas – Apple’s virtual avatars that represent users in augmented and virtual reality environments. Rendering capabilities for Personas have been improved, with more realistic hair, makeup, and facial details. Perhaps most interestingly, a new hands-free Persona capture mode is being introduced, allowing users to create their virtual self without manually scanning with an iPhone.
Productivity Boosts:
For productivity, the Mac Virtual Display feature that allows Vision Pro to serve as an extended display for a Mac has received enhanced reliability. The update also brings the ability to position virtual 3D objects even closer in a Shared Space collaborative environment.
Refinement and Integration:
While visionOS 1.1 doesn’t introduce major new tentpole features, it continues to refine and polish the overall Vision Pro software experience across AR/VR gaming, productivity, communication, media consumption, and more. Users can expect smoother performance and more seamless integration as Apple iterates on its spatial computing platform.
